Laurie was a member of the Edmonton Oil Capital Kiwanis Club for many years and was a past president of the club. Laurie also served on the Kiwanis Western Canada Board as the Key Club Administrator for a few years.

Laurie was kind, honest, and respectful of everyone. She loved to laugh and  enjoyed life.  

Laurie was a strong supporter of continued learning.  It didn't matter whether it was community classes, college classes, university studies or just something for fun - like learning to ride a motorcycle or paint a picture - Laurie applauded it . When Laurie pasted in 2014, the Edmonton Oil Capital scholarship was renamed the Laurie Billings Scholarship to honour her memory. 

E.B. "Mac" Mckitrick was a past member of the Edmonton Oil Capital Club who was  President of Kiwanis International 1981-1982. 

The Mac McKitrick Scholarships are presented to participants in the speech competition during the Edmonton Speech and Music Festival held every spring in Edmonton. 

The scholarship recipients are selected by the adjudicators with the Speech and Music Festival. To receive a scholarship you must be a registered member at the festival.
